Maintenance Advice for All Promotional Materials

As the weather brightens up, a plethora of exhibition and trade shows throw open their doors to businesses, industry experts and interested visitors to bring together a group of people with a common purpose. Those who will be exhibiting and taking displays to these events will need to ensure that their sales team is fully prepared, their briefs and targets have been decided upon, and their equipment is in top condition. Here are some maintenance tips from the promotional experts Portfolio Display on how to properly maintain promotional materials in the run up to the event and exhibition season.

  1. Flagpoles

Offering an air of grandeur to any display or exhibition, promotional flags and flagpoles are best utilised outside. This means that they are generally more hardwearing and durable, but also that they require a little more maintenance than standard indoor exhibition equipment. To keep a flagpole in great condition, check all supporting metalwork and arrange replacement for parts if necessary. The finial, cleat and internal halyard door should all be checked and when satisfied that it is in good condition, the entire flagpole can be washed to preserve the colour or finish. If the flagpole has been around for a few years and is starting to look worn or old, you could try painting the pole in immaculate white to get it back to a professional and attractive state. Or apply some strong cleaning solution, to remove tough dirt and stains.

  1. Exhibition Stands

Many exhibition stands are created to be as low-maintenance as possible. With the appropriate carry bags, they can be transported from place to place safely and securely, and many will last for multiple exhibition seasons. In the case of banner stand maintenance, it is often more relevant to examine the state of the graphics themselves. Being constantly rolled and unrolled over a course of two or three years might cause the material to become worn, and the graphics and information stated on the banners themselves might be out of date. Update the printed graphics for banner stands wherever possible to ensure a sleek and professional look when presenting the company to the public. The hardware itself may also need replacing if it’s starting to look worn.

  1. Outdoor Materials

When facing the elements, outdoor promotional materials such as bunting and forecourt signs will often show signs of wear and tear after multiple years and much use. Examine each bunting flag before each event; one tatty flag in the middle of a walkway or along the underside of a counter offers a perspective of a business as lazy, or without attention-to-detail. Pavement signs like A-boards and poster signs are often constructed from plastic or a light metal; if they are light metal, examine them for any obvious signs of rust, and ensure to replace graphics and keep them updated wherever necessary. Also check the graphics to ensure the UV rays from the sun has not faded them over time.
