How to apply Vinyl Lettering & Custom Printed Graphics

Many customers have asked for instructions on how to apply their custom vinyl stickers. Following these easy steps should ensure that your vinyl is placed in the correct position and free from dust or dirt contamination. Don’t apply graphics in direct sunlight, as the vinyl tends to stick straight away only giving you one chance.

1. Firstly prepare the surface to ensure the area is clean and dust free using a damp cloth. Measure and mark the area you want your vinyl lettering placed by sticking the vinyl in position using masking tape. Stand back and make sure everything is straight and in the correct position. Mark the edge of the vinyl in the top corners and the top edge with masking tape and remove the vinyl so you can use this as a guide when it comes to affixing.

2. For easy positioning and movement, mix a very small amount of washing up liquid in a bucket / spray bottle of cold water. Peel the backing paper slowly off the adhesive side of the graphics and spray with water until all the vinyl is equally covered.

3. Gently place the vinyl in the correct position, match the edge of the backing paper up to the inner edge of the masking tape you applied earlier. Use a squeegee or folded card when in the correct position and disperse the water from behind diagonally until all the water and air have been removed. Run your hand over the graphics to find any remaining air bubbles and remove with the squeegee.

4. Finally leave the vinyl to dry for 5/10 minutes and then gently peel back the application paper. Remove any remaining masking tape markers and wipe the area with clean water. Leave the vinyl lettering for a couple of days before you wash your vehicle to ensure the vinyl doesn’t come away.
