By the term ‘digital print’ we mean a design that is printed directly from computer onto material through the use of a large format ink jet printer. The advantages of printing this way are numerous especially when it comes to our ‘promotional flags’.
Digital print has enabled us to do away with the time consuming traditional processes in favour of something a lot faster, making the cost of printing a small number of promotional flags more affordable without compromising on quality.
There is also an advantage when it comes to colour, no longer do you need the use of a pantone reference to get your desired result. Full colour prints with 3D designs are no problem, giving you the option to get your print as vibrant and colourful as you like.
At ‘Portfolio Display’ we like to keep up with advances in technology so not only do we use digital print for our custom made flags but on many of the items you see on our website and in our catalogue. This ensures you will be receiving the best quality results at a great price!

You can help extend the life of your promotional or corporate printed flags by following a few simple practices. Do you need to fly your flags at night?. If not then lowering your flag can help double its life. Flags can take a battering during high winds so lowering your flags above winds of 35km/h will also help prolong their life. You may decide to replace the flag with a storm flag, this practice is considered at force 5 and adopted at force 6. Flags should be removed
When the stitching in the hem starts to break remove your flag and have it repaired. Washing your flags on a regular basis not only keeps them looking clean, but this also helps reduce the rotting of the material caused by the dirt and acids that are carried in the atmosphere. Washing every 14 days is recommended in normal or heavily polluted areas.
Woven and knitted polyester flags require a warm wash of 40-50 degrees. 1 to 2 main washes main be required to remove heavy soiling. Ensure your flags are dried thoroughly before being folded and stored. Ensure your flags are washed from the outset. Dirt that has been ingrained over a prolonged period of time will be difficult to remove. The dyes that we use on our flags have been pre-washed @ 50-60 degrees centigrade prior to supply.

This question always raises a number of answers, the following is intended as a guidance only. If you intend to fly the Union flag or national flag of any country then you do not need planning permission to install a flagpole. Flags used for advertising and promotional purposes are controlled under Advertisement Regulations and would normally require consent from your local council. Flagpoles installed on listed buildings would require listed building consent.
No more than one flagpole would normally be permitted on buildings, listed buildings or buildings within conservation areas. An exception can sometimes be made for major public buildings or for buildings such as chain stores or hotels. Local councils policies on flagpoles can differ from each other so it is always advised to seek guidance from your local council before any plans are made.
Generally planning permission will be required if you intend to fly flags used for advertising. Portable flagpoles are an alternative solution as they do not require planning permission. A preferred option for new and used car dealerships.

The Union Jack or Union Flag is the national flag of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The current design we all know and love has been about since January 1st 1801. We know it as the Union Flag as it represents King George III administrative union of the 3 kingdoms of the British Isles. England, Scotland & Ireland (Northern Ireland Only Since 1921). The flag design itself consists of the Cross of Saint Andrew overlaying with the Cross of Saint Patrick with the Cross of Saint George on top. Why wasn’t Wales included in the Union Jack? At the time Wales was a principality ruled by a prince, therefore could not be included in the union. Some residents of Wales call to change the flag and included the Welsh Dragon in the Centre of the Cross of Saint George.
The ‘Union’ part of the name simply came from union of the three countries. The ‘Jack’ part however has been used for the flag since before 1600 and its origins are unclear. The main theory is that the ‘Jack’ part may have simply come from the name of King James I or James VI of Scotland. Another idea was when used as a maritime flag at the front of the boat it was called ‘Jack’ by the sailors. Another theory comes from back in 1674 when its was referred to as either “the Jack”, or “Jack Flag” or the King’s Jack. The royalty at the time referred to it as “His Majesty’s Jack” and after that it was officially named the ‘Union Jack’. Historians are still unsure of the origins of the use of ‘Jack’ but are still researching it roots.
At Portfolio Display we offer a large range of Union Jack flags and national flags. Our range includes a variety of materials and sizes from polyester flags to quality machine stitched cloth flags for long-term use. We also offer a great range of national flag bunting, which comes in 9m (30ft) lengths with many countries available to buy securely online.
